Micah Curtis, Guitar Instructor

Micah Curtis

Guitar Instructor

Micah Curtis is a metal/rock guitarist that plays both the acoustic and electric guitar and eagerly seeks to guide all individuals who wish to start their journey on guitar. The journey of music is a hard one, but with Micah’s experience, you can be assured that you will be starting on the right path.

Micah has been playing the guitar for 13 years, starting off as self-taught, but then later in life, he wanted to take music to the next level where he went and earned an AA in music education at Centralia College and continues to take private lessons and be further trained by Sean-David and Austin Brown, not only to grow himself, but to ensure that his students are going to receive the quality and commitment they deserve.

Micah performs in music theatre as the guitarist for pit orchestras, has performed two national acts with famous bands such as Attila, Until I Wake, and I Declare War, and is currently the guitarist for Centralia College Jazz Ensemble. Micah’s current goals in music are to write a full solo album on guitar, and to always grow and improve in music and guitar. Outside of music, Micah loves to partake in outdoor recreation such as hiking and camping where he can pitch a tent and play his guitar around an open campfire.

Greg Burgess, Guitar Instructor

Greg Burgess

Guitar Instructor

Born in the PNW, Greg studied music at Pacific Lutheran University. While there he developed a passion for early music. This informs his approach to teaching which is rooted in historically informed pedagogue and performance. Greg enjoys teaching the building blocks of music and encouraging students to develop their musical skills. While classical guitar and early music are Greg’s passion, he is highly capable and proficient in popular styles as well and will teach you what you want to learn. And by the way, classical guitar isn't just about classical music, it's about pure, unfiltered guitar awesomeness. Greg also plays the mandolin, the lute, and the piano.

Greg is enrolling now for private lessons on Sundays 9am to 1pm, and Tuesday evenings.

Caleb Carr

Guitar Instructor

Caleb is a life-long music student, performer, composer, and educator with a variety of musical interests and over eight years professional experience working in different musical roles, including six years as a private music teacher and four years teaching music for 4-12 year-olds at a public school. While committed to excellence, Caleb brings a down-to-earth, friendly attitude to his lessons.

From Caleb:

“One of my highest priorities is building positive relationships with students. I bring a smile to all my lessons and bring out the joy and fun of learning and making music. A safe, positive atmosphere inspires students to feel comfortable as they learn, take musical risks, make mistakes, express themselves, and explore the wonder and beauty of music.”

Caleb started studying piano with a private instructor as a kid and enjoyed composing original songs on the family spinet from a young age. He trained and performed as a percussionist, drummer, and vocalist in the 3-time State Champion Band and Chorus program at his high school and performed in the yearly musical theater shows. As a teenager, Caleb also picked up guitar and began recording original songs. He went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree, studying voice and taking piano and guitar classes. Caleb is currently working on a Master of Music Production degree from the renowned Berklee College of Music, studying under such accomplished producers as David Bendeth (Breaking Benjamin, Paramore, Vertical Horizon) and Enrique Gonzalez Müller (Kronos Quartet, Joan Baez, Los Amigos Invisibles). Caleb has had the honor of producing projects for a handful of artists since 2020.

Since moving to Olympia in December 2022, Caleb has enjoyed connecting with local musicians and serving the community in any way possible. He has volunteered as a songwriting mentor with The Bridge Music Program, tested out new songs at Rhythms Coffee open mic nights, performed at the Olympia Farmers Market, and taught private music lessons. In his spare time, Caleb enjoys playing table-top games, cooking, marveling at the trees and water, surfing, and hanging out at coffee shops.

Trent Schriender

Guitar Instructor

Trent grew up in a musical household and started piano lessons in the second grade. With the musical knowledge he gained through piano, he also taught himself baritone ukulele, guitar, bass, accordion and drums. Trent holds a B.A. in Music from Lawrence University in Wisconsin and played and toured with several bands before moving to Davis, CA in 2015. Trent has lived with his wife and two children in East Davis and teaching since 2015, but he is so excited to now be here in the PNW at Music 1st!

Trent loves teaching with movement and even chants because it develops inner musicality and encourages creativity and improvisation.

Chivan Lim

Guitar Instructor

Chivan Lim is a graduate South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC). At SPSCC he discovered his passion for building communities and making his visions come alive. He has also demonstrated these skills with his band WINEHOUSE. Often booking gigs, networking, and communicating with groups, he is dedicated to enhancing the events he hosts. Being an active member of many local communities has given him a great sense of variety and an understanding of what people want to see.

"Chivan is amazing at making you feel comfortable and at ease. He's confident enough in his ability to tell you when you haven't quite gotten it, but he's encouraging, even when correcting you. If you choose Chivan as your instructor, you can be sure you'll have a good time, learn a lot, and feel both secure in your abilities and unashamed of your mistakes."- Micaiah Sawyer, Singer/Songwiter, and Faculty Member at The Tuned In Academy

When you’re looking for guitar lessons for your kid, it makes a big difference to have a guitar teacher that’s actually an active local guitarist in a working band, playing, performing, and recording with a respected local band. And Chivan’s not just a working local guitarist, he’s also great people, fun, down-to-earth, and an educated musician. Chivan will teach your child everything they need, the fundamentals of music (reading, scales, chords, theory), and even more important, how they apply to rock’n out, so your child can go wherever the music takes them without limits!
